The Venture Capital Fund Institute (VCFI) has teamed up with McGill Ventures—McGill University’s student‑run venture‑capital club—to break down the cost barrier to professional‑grade fund‑modeling skills. The partnership removes financial barriers by providing more than USD $10,000 in course scholarships, giving Montreal’s next generation of investors the skills LPs and partners actually demand through VCFI’s flagship VC Fund Modeling Masterclass.

The masterclass delivered on demand video instruction, paired with Excel templates and case-study data. McGill students built full fund- and management-company forecasts, model capital-call schedules and management-fee ramps, test portfolio-construction scenarios, and calculate carry waterfalls and performance metrics such as TVPI, DPI, MOIC, and IRR.

Graduates also received a certificate from the VCFI demonstrating mastery of VC Fund structures, economics and forecasting. Over 20 Students from McGill Ventures enrolled in the VC Fund Modeling Masterclass on scholarships.

“This was my first time getting into any kind of financial modelling, but the course did a great job of explaining everything!” — Eli Polterovich, McGill Ventures Analyst

Why This Partnership Matters

Key Benefit

Student Impact

Hands‑on fund mechanics

Learners model capital calls, management‑fee ramps, and carry waterfalls line‑by‑line in Excel.

Ecosystem acceleration

Injecting trained analysts into Montreal’s fast‑growing VC scene raises the sophistication of local deal flow.

Access & equity

Scholarships open doors for talented students who would otherwise be priced out of specialized VC training.

Bottom line: VC is often opaque by design. This partnership between VCFI and McGill Ventures tears down that wall, arming motivated students with the modeling chops LPs and partners actually demand. If you’re serious about a career in venture, keep an eye on VCFI’s upcoming scholarship rounds—your seat could be next.

By equipping more than 20 students with expert‑level fund‑modeling skills, the two organizations are seeding Canada’s innovation economy with analysts who can build—rather than just talk about—venture funds.
